Florence Ballard Vocal Range: The REAL Effie White [C3-D6]
VOICE TYPE: Soprano
Lower Chest Voice: C3-G3
Upper Chest Voice: G4-G#5
Head Voice: C5-D6
Florence Glenda Ballard Chapman (June 30, 1943 -- February 22, 1976) was an American singer and a founding member of the Motown group The Supremes. From 1963 until 1967, Ballard sang on 16 Top 40 hit Supremes' singles, ten of which hit number-one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1967, Motown CEO Berry Gordy decided to remove Ballard from the Supremes.
After being dropped from the group, Ballard struggled with a solo career in the late 1960s and spent much of the last five years of her life in relative poverty before recieving an insurance settlement with which she began to re-build her life with, purchasing a new house and car.
In 1976, Ballard died of cardiac arrest at the age of thirty-two while making a comeback in the entertainment industry. Her death has been called "one of rock's greatest tragedies".
The character "Effie White" from the 1981 broadway play and 2006 play Dreamgirls is loosely based on Florence Ballard and The Supremes story. Jennifer Hudson won a Golden Globe Award and Academy Award for her portrayal of Effie White in the "Dreamgirls" film. In her Golden Globe acceptance speech, Hudson dedicated her win to Florence Ballard.

Diana Ross & The Supremes - "I'll Set You Free" [Love Child: 1968]
Переглядів 101 тис.14 років тому
Here is one of the last songs from the "Love Child" album by Diana Ross & The Supremes. Vocals: The Supremes - Lead: Diana Ross - Backing: Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong Instrumentation: The Funk Brothers and The De...

.............and this is just pure "Flo" with no post production clean up, background harmonies, or additional instrumentation. Think what this would have sounded like if it had been prepared for release with all the "bells and whistles" added.

Diana played the game on her back then she married rich. Wonder if she has found love or still chasing money 💰 🤔

As many fans know, it was rare that Mary and Cindy were featured on the Supremes' recordings once Cindy came on board being that other background singers (especially the Andantes) were featured on the groups' performances. This; however, is one of those times in which we are hearing Mary and Cindy.
